Sibyl Towner is the co-author of Listen to My Life and co-founder of oneLifeMaps. Sibyl’s life mission statement is to equip the next generation of leaders in Godly character and Godly leadership. Through assisting people as they explore their life stories, Sibyl helps them grow up in Christ, discover God’s presence in them and call forth their gifts to build up and extend the Body of Christ. Sibyl is renowned for her discerning, accepting, and wise presence, cultivated over a lifetime of experience in Spiritual Direction. Her style is custom fit to each directee to focus on the needs of each individual. For some directees she provides a more direct approach, and for others a gentle and gracious space. Needless to say, after so many years of experience, very little surprises Sibyl anymore and she is well equipped to accept and deal with a wide variety of spiritual concerns. Sibyl likes to begin sessions with a time of fixed prayer, and over the course of the Direction she guides each individual into a deeper knowledge and experience of their belovedness in God. Sybil desires to be an incarnational presence for others as they draw close to Christ.
Sybil takes a highly personal approach to each of her directees, often inviting them to share a meal or experience her overnight hospitality along with her husband Dick. She practices out of the gracious desire to ‘look twice at you until she sees the Christ in you.’
Sibyl enjoys walking in nature, reading deeply into the field of Spiritual Direction, and the art of hosting and hospitality. She loves to eat beautiful salads that are in and of themselves a filling meal, and likes to spend time with God outdoors, in Scripture, and in silence and solitude. Sibyl and her husband Dick have two married sons, seven grandchildren, and one adopted-in-love son with his family of four children. In addition, they have had over 80 young people live as extended family in their home. Sibyl enjoys listening to people tell their stories, reading, walking, tennis, and life.Sibyl is encouraged by the totality of Psalm 139, and Matthew 11, and has felt God press 1 Thessalonians 5:15-17 upon her heart as her life verse.
